The next step in the installation process is surface preparation. To prep your concrete’s surface, we can either use a floor grinder fitted with a diamond grinding wheel or shot blast the concrete. This is performed to clear any minor blemishes and ensure that the epoxy resin properly adheres to the concrete substrate. With the surface prepped, we can begin mixing the epoxy resin. While we mix the resin, metallic pigments are mixed in as well to give the floor its metallic shimmer. Next, we’ll pour the epoxy onto the floor and spread it using specialized tools. Multiple metallic epoxy layers will be poured until we near the desired thickness, leaving enough room for the clear epoxy topcoat to be applied last. Before we apply the top coat, any patterns you’ve requested will be created using the aforementioned tools. Once our team has finished creating the design that you’ve chosen, we’ll apply the clear topcoat to finish and seal the floor. Your new metallic epoxy floor will need some time to cure before you can use it. On average, metallic epoxy flooring needs approximately 24 hours to be 90% cured and 72 hours to be 100% cured. At 90% cured, you can walk on the floor. However, it’s not clear for full use, including vehicle traffic, until it’s 100% cured. Depending on the size of your floor and the complexity of your design, it generally takes our team around one to two days to install a metallic epoxy floor.
